Suez are a specialist waste management solutions provider with operations throughout the UK and across
the globe. The Alnwick commercial and domestic waste site has multiple large cavernous sheds for the
storage and sorting of waste materials. Due to the dusty cavernous environment's with large openings,
traditional fire detection systems just simply wouldn't work so Suez turned to Phoenix FMS, their security
partner to come up with a solution.

Project Objectives:
Phoenix FMS was tasked with providing a cutting edge integrated site
security system for the Alnwick site. One of the storage and sorting sheds
had suffered fires in the past. Phoenix FMS installed a thermal imaging
camera capable of viewing the full scene even in pitch black or dusty
conditions. The camera is programmed to detect a rapid rate of rise of
temperature in particular parts of the scene. Previously fires had been
caused through moving of materials and friction build up, gases and even
arson. The camera system is able to detect a fire before its even
combusted and alert the site staff so it can be quickly dealt with. This
avoids costly plant shut downs and delays. The site team wanted to be
notified immediately of any possible threat of fire so the system is able to
push notification alerts to key site personnel devices.

Solution:

Using sophisticated thermal imaging CCTV cameras from one of the worlds largest manufacture's of CCTV
(Dahua) Phoenix were able to protect both harsh external environment's and internal sheds from the threat of
fire. Using IP rated PoE dual lens thermal cameras the site team can monitor the situation during operational
hours. When the site is closed the monitoring of the site switches to Phoenix Eyes state of the art remote
video response center.
The thermal imaging cameras don't just provide fire detection, they can also detect body heat at distances up
to 750m. On detection of an intruder Phoenix FMS control room operators can quickly assess the situation
and set off live audio public address, call the police and even dispatch one of their mobile response officers.

Results:

The site team were highly impressed with the ease of
use of the system. Vastly improving on the antiquated
analogue CCTV system. The Phoenix FMS system takes
care of all the sites needs from monitoring, health and
safety and security providing real tangible return on
investment.
Since installation the site team and key stake holders
have noticed a significant increase in efficiency and
enhanced monitoring. The local environmental agency
were also impressed with the systems effectiveness'
adding "This meets fire prevention strategy in a way
never previously thought possible, the systems are
innovative but more than that they actually work."
